Museums are supposed to be repositories for the most beautiful and the most treasured pieces of art. As prominent Los Angeles real estate attorney Valerie Wisot points out, though, when disputes arise during museum construction, things can get really ugly. Case in point: the Broad Collection contemporary art museum in Los Angeles. Back in May, Eli and Edythe Broad—along with the museum’s general contractor, Matt Construction —sued subcontractor Seele, which was supposed to deliver the art gallery’s signature “veil” façade. According to the plaintiffs, the latter completely missed the “aesthetic intent” behind the striking honeycomb-like façade, resulting in unusable mockups.
